Average Rate of Change

The change in the y-value divided by the change in the x-value for two distinct points on the graph.

Function

A pairing of inputs with outputs such that each input has exactly one output.

Independent Variable

The "input" variable.

Zero of a Function

An x-value that makes a function equal to zero.

Parent Function

A set of data that has one distinct output for each input.

Parallel Lines

Two lines in the same plane that do not intersect.

Y-Intercept

The point where a graph crosses the y-axis.

Dependent Variable

The "output" variable.

Range

The output values of a function.

Absolute Value

The distance any number is from zero.

Perpendicular Lines

Two lines that intersect at a right angle.

Function Notation

A way of naming a function using f(x) instead of "y=".

X-Intercept

The point where the graph crosses the x-axis.

Absolute Value Function

A function that contains an absolute value expression.

Domain

The input values of a function.
